New technology to manage an old disease

Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica's Ingelvac ERY-ALC live vaccine administered in drinking water offers a pig-friendly, user-friendly and labor-efficient method to control or prevent those outbreaks from the nursery through finishing.

To carry a label claim for protection against Erysipelas, licensed vaccines must demonstrate immunity following vaccination; newer vaccines must also demonstrate how long that immunity persists following vaccination. Some contain one-third or less of the protective antigen per dose of Ingelvac ERY-ALC — a significant influence on duration of immunity. Some have no proof of duration at all.

Ingelvac ERY-ALC is the only vaccine for erysipelas that shows rapid onset and long lasting protection from a single dose. In challenge studies, 60 percent of pigs were protected by just six days following vaccination. Ninety percent of pigs vaccinated at 8 weeks of age and 76 percent of those vaccinated at 5 weeks of age were still protected when challenged 128 days after vaccination.

Sick F.L.; Hayes P.W. Single oral dose of Ingelvac ERY-ALC provides 18 weeks duration of immunity. Proc IPVS 2002: Poster Paper 298.
