Fast onset for Myco control

Vaccination against Mycoplasma is the most common vaccine administered to pigs, with over 60% of animals receiving the vaccine. Providing a high level of protection, with flexible timing to better fit management practices, is important to meet the needs of producers. New challenge study information shows how Ingelvac® M.hyo is even more valuable for producers to use in their production system.

Fast onset for simpler timing

The time it takes a vaccine to stimulate protection against challenge, known as the onset of immunity, is a limiting factor for placing vaccine. For vaccines that take four weeks to provide protection, such as two dose killed vaccines, animals need to have this time frame before exposure on the farm to ensure adequate protection. Now Ingelvac M. hyo has demonstrated protection as quickly as 14 days after vaccination, speeding protection to pigs at least two weeks ahead of competitors. These two weeks may make the difference between a full-fledged outbreak on a slower vaccine, versus protection with Ingelvac.

PMWS (caused by Circo virus), now a common diagnosis in diagnostic labs, may complicate vaccination timing. Harsher adjuvants, like those based on mineral oil, may even result in higher losses due to PCV2/PMWS. In a head to head comparison, a common two dose vaccine resulted in twice the mortality rate as Ingelvac M. hyo, due to more PMWS in pigs receiving the two dose vaccine. One dose timing and the advanced technology of Impran® reduced the impact of PMWS on production by 50%!

Saving money with Ingelvac® M. hyo

Another advantage of fast onset, which allows placing vaccine closer to disease challenge, is the chance to save vaccine cost. With most pigs receiving their Myco vaccines in the nursery, some animals get vaccinated that will be culled or sold to other markets. This limits the value of the vaccine for those pigs, costing the producer money. With its fast onset and high level protection, Ingelvac M. hyo can even be delayed until pigs are leaving the nursery. Any cull pigs, or those sold off the farm, can either be vaccinated or left unvaccinated, saving the full cost of the vaccine and administration for those animals. In tough times, Ingelvac M. hyo's top protection and fast onset allows you to save every penny!
