Ingelvac M.hyo optimizes immunity, protection
A recent collaborative study between research scientists at Boehringer Ingelheim and researchers at the University of Illinois confirmed Ingelvac® M.hyo as a top Mycoplasma vaccine. Immune response measurements (serologic and cellular immune response, also known as CMI), lung lesions and growth rate following challenge were studied. All measurements and analyses were made in a blinded fashion (identity of groups hidden from researchers).
Ingelvac® M.hyo stimulated the highest levels of serologic titer and CMI response. Inconsistent response to conventional two-dose Mycoplasma vaccines may result in subpopulations of unprotected or under-protected pigs. More consistent immunity may prevent vaccine failures and reduce further the impact of disease challenge, a concern with conventional two-dose bacterins.
Only Ingelvac® M.hyo vaccinated pigs had ADG (average daily gain) significantly greater than pigs that received no vaccine. Pneumonia levels (ALS) in pigs vaccinated with one dose of Ingelvac® M.hyo were significantly lower than controls, while the conventional two-dose vaccine was not detectably different from controls. A trend to improved gain vs. conventional vaccine was also detected, even with a small study size (p<0.07).
Safety, measured by temperature rise following vaccination, also favored Ingelvac® M.hyo. Reaction to vaccination, producing a significant increase in body temperature, followed vaccination with a conventional two-dose vaccine and it's one dose version. In contrast, Ingelvac® M.hyo vaccinated pigs maintained a body temperature similar to non vaccinated pigs. Additionally, the stress of a second vaccination was eliminated.
The superior performance of Ingelvac® M.hyo is based on several elements:
- Enhanced antigen mass to deliver immune boosting effectiveness
- Homogenized antigen/adjuvant to increase the efficiency of vaccine exposure to the immune system
- An advanced bio-lipid adjuvant maintains the vaccine in the pigs system for an extended time (Impran®).
Ingelvac® M.hyo — best protection and gain when challenged; consistent, measurable immune response; and safety/non reactivity in pigs.
