2007 Boehringer Ingelheim Advancement in PRRS Research Award Recipients Announced

Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc., is committed to learning more about understanding and managing the PRRS virus.

Again this year, Boehringer Ingelheim has awarded a total of $75,000 (USD) for three research studies from proposals submitted by swine researchers, practicing and teaching veterinarians, students and others in the swine industry within the NA FTA Region (United States, Canada and Mexico). This year’s winners are:

Jeff Zimmerman, DVM, PhD, Iowa State University – PRRS virus surveillance: handling and storage guidelines for oral fluid samples.

Derald Holtkamp, DVM, MS, Iowa State University – A cross-sectional study of PRRS virus positive swine breeding herd sites to evaluate associations between risk factors and a case definition-based number and severity of clinical PRRS episodes.

Bob Morrison, MS, PhD, University of Minnesota – Experimental quantification of PRRS virus transmission of information between pigs of different PRRS vaccination status.
